AEM

AEM is an emerging technology that combines the benefits of both the PEM and AWE technologies sans the usage of precious metals thereby making the stacks more economical and suitable for price sensitive markets. Its usage in India has been touted to be encompassing considering its many advantages in the liberation of the H2 molecule and its smaller footprint.

Anion Exchange Membrane

How does it work

Anion exchange membrane technology is the most innovative and still relatively unknown. The basic principle and process scheme are the same as PEM technology, but in this case, charge transport is guaranteed by OH- ions as in traditional alkaline technology, combining the advantages of the latter (mainly the presence of more affordable components) with the advantages of PEM technology (mainly the possibility of obtaining high-pressure hydrogen). The hydrogen obtained from these systems has a high degree of purity and high pressure without the need for post-purification and post-compression systems.

Advantages

  • High purity H2 output and production
  • High H2 output pressure (30-35 bar)
  • Low specific energy consumption
  • High lifetime and gas purity.
  • Low cost due to cheaper material such as Nickel, Stainless steel (AISI 316l), etc.
  • Low moisture content in H2
  • Low purity of water required (25 µS/cm)
  • The system requires little maintenance
